Online gaming solutions provider Microgaming has announced that its decade long association with Intertops Casino – one of the Company’s first licensees – is to end due to Intertops decision to re-enter the U.S market.
This announcement comes close on the heels following last year’s challenge by the State of Kentucky to seize the Company’s domain names in a dispute over illegal gambling. Keeping in mind the adverse ruling Microgaming thereafter desisted from specifically serving U.S-based casino players.
The move followed the ruling which was passed last year by a Franklin Circuit Court Judge which gave the site owners 30 days to block access to Kentucky residents or else face forfeiture. Microgaming then decided to block any new U.S casino player sign-ups. This decision was taken in light of the Kentucky case as well as keeping in mind the implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA of 2006 – a U.S law that requires American financial institutions to block payment to online casinos, poker rooms and bookmakers.
The EU Trade Commission in March this year released the findings of its 12-month investigation into the legality of the U.S.’s ban on online gaming and has asserted that the UIGEA violates the World Trade Organization agreements between the U.S and Europe.
Michl Posch, Intertops’ Head of Marketing, said that the Company is proud to have been powered by such a reputable, market-leading, gaming software provider, Microgaming, over the past decade. The assistance that Microgaming provided in the change process has been extremely helpful to Intertops.
Intertops now have two versions of its online casino which is licensed in Kahnawake and Antigua, a Green and Red version, with the Red casino targeted specifically at U.S customers.
Intertops Poker continues to operate on the Microgaming network and serves U.S. customers.
